Most visiting golfers spend significant time choosing their courses and accommodation — and almost no time understanding tee time schedules and caddie culture. Yet these two elements are what most commonly separate a seamless Thailand golf experience from a frustrating one.
Tee time availability at Thailand's top courses is genuinely constrained during peak season. Similarly, the caddie culture across Thai golf is fundamentally different from most Western countries — caddies are mandatory at the majority of courses, they are trained professionals, and knowing how to work with yours effectively can measurably improve both your score and your enjoyment.
This guide gives you the practical specifics on both — how far ahead to book, what tee times are actually worth fighting for, what caddies cost, what tipping is appropriate, and how to get the best from the experience.
Laguna Phuket Golf Club
The answer depends heavily on which courses you want to play and when you're travelling.
▪️ Peak season (November to April): For Phuket's top courses — Blue Canyon, Red Mountain, Laguna Golf — morning tee times between 7:00 and 9:00 AM should be booked 4 to 6 weeks in advance as a minimum. December and January are the busiest months; 8 weeks ahead is more appropriate for those windows. Hua Hin's Black Mountain and Siam Country Club Old Course in Pattaya follow similar patterns.
▪️ Shoulder season (October, April): 2 to 3 weeks typically sufficient for most courses. Some last-minute availability exists but prime morning slots remain constrained.
▪️ Low season (May to September): 1 to 2 weeks is generally adequate for most venues. Morning tee times are accessible with shorter lead times, and green fees at many courses are discounted 15–25% compared to peak rates. Phuket and Hua Hin see the most weather variation during this period; plan morning rounds as default.
The key variable that individual travellers consistently underestimate is this: golf tour operators like CGE Golf hold pre-allocated tee time blocks at partner courses throughout peak season. This means priority access exists — but only through channels unavailable to independent bookers.
Group bookings in Thailand require particular attention to tee time coordination. For groups of 8 or more, tee time spacing (typically 8–10 minutes between flights of 4) needs to be coordinated with the course starter to ensure the group plays together or in well-managed sequential flights rather than being separated across the morning field.
Getting this wrong — as frequently happens with independently booked large groups — results in some players finishing well ahead of others, coordination chaos at lunch, and a compromised overall experience. CGE Golf manages this coordination as a standard part of every group booking, with direct communication to each course's operations team before arrival.
Not all courses are equally accessible to independent travellers.
▪️ Restricted or member-priority venues: Some of Thailand's most prestigious clubs — particularly private clubs in Bangkok — limit outside access or require introduction through a member or authorised operator. Without a relationship with the club, direct booking is not possible regardless of how early you try.
▪️ Tour operator-allocated blocks: Major courses in Phuket and Hua Hin reserve a proportion of their tee sheet for contracted operators throughout the year — including peak season when public availability is severely limited. An independent traveller checking the same course's direct booking page during high season will often see far fewer options than a CGE Golf client requesting the same date.
▪️ Tournament closures: Several Thai courses close to outside play during professional tour events. Without current knowledge of the tournament calendar, an independent traveller can book flights and accommodation only to find their target course is hosting a pro-am the same week. This is a real and avoidable problem.

Unlike many Western countries where caddies are an optional premium service, caddies in Thailand are a standard and non-negotiable part of the green fee structure at virtually every course from mid-range to championship level.
This surprises many first-time visitors who expect to walk or use a push trolley. In practice, it is not a compromise — Thai caddies are trained professionals who provide genuine, measurable value on the course, and the caddie experience is one of the defining qualities of golf in Asia.
Thai caddies operate at a significantly higher standard than the bag-carrier model familiar to many Western golfers. On a typical round in Phuket, Hua Hin, or Pattaya, your caddie will:
▪️ Carry your bag for the full 18 holes (walking, regardless of whether a buggy is also available)
▪️ Clean your clubs and ball after every shot as standard
▪️ Read greens with local precision — particularly valuable on courses you're playing for the first time, where your caddie's knowledge of break, speed, and grain is a genuine scoring asset
▪️ Provide yardages to the pin and to hazards (most caddies use GPS devices or course-specific yardage books)
▪️ Advise on club selection based on your level and the conditions — experienced caddies calibrate their recommendations to your game quickly
▪️ Manage pace to ensure your group keeps up with the field and avoids slow-play penalties at courses with marshals
▪️ Carry water and snacks on courses where on-course refreshment stops are limited
On a course like Red Mountain Phuket — with its significant elevation changes and irregular terrain — a good caddie is not a luxury. They are a practical necessity for navigating the course efficiently and safely.
Understanding tipping practices is essential. While caddie fees are usually included in your golf package, gratuities are expected and vary by destination. Navigating these customs ensures you respect local culture and receive the best possible service.

Understanding where independent bookings go wrong is the clearest way to understand where managed packages add genuine value.
▪️ Booking too late for peak-season courses. The most common issue. A golfer arriving in Phuket in December who has booked flights and accommodation but left tee times until the week before will typically find Blue Canyon's morning slots sold out 3–4 weeks prior. They either play suboptimal afternoon times or switch to lower-priority courses.
▪️ Not accounting for mandatory extras in price comparisons. A golfer comparing a direct green fee with a package price rarely compares apples to apples. The package price that appears higher frequently includes caddie, cart, and transfer costs that the direct booking lists separately. The final direct-booking cost is almost always higher than it initially appears.
▪️ Booking courses without checking the tournament calendar. This is rare but genuinely happens — particularly during the Asian Tour season. Courses with confirmed events scheduled may close to outside play for several days either side of a tournament without major public announcement.
▪️ Separating a large group across different booking channels. For groups of 8–16, booking half the group through one channel and half through another frequently results in non-consecutive tee times, groups playing in the wrong rotation, and score sheets that don't match up by the 18th hole. Group bookings require coordinated management from a single point of contact.
▪️ Missing course-specific restrictions. Some prestigious courses require minimum handicap certificates for certain tee options, or restrict outside bookings for specific event days. Discovering these restrictions at the check-in desk rather than in advance creates exactly the type of day-ruining surprise that advance planning with a local partner prevents.
CGE Golf's operational model is built around exactly the two elements this article covers.
▪️ Tee time access: Through established contractual relationships with leading courses across Thailand's five main golf regions, CGE Golf holds pre-allocated priority tee time slots throughout peak season. Clients access morning tee times at Blue Canyon, Red Mountain, Black Mountain, and Siam Country Club that are simply not available through direct booking channels during high-demand periods.
▪️ All-in package pricing: Every CGE Golf package includes caddie fees, cart fees where applicable, and course transfers in a single upfront price. There are no hidden additions at the check-in desk. The price confirmed at booking is the price paid.
▪️ Tournament calendar management: The CGE Golf team monitors the Asian Tour, LPGA Thailand, and domestic Thai tournament calendars as a standard part of itinerary planning. If a target course has a conflict on a client's preferred date, an equivalent alternative is built in from the start rather than discovered at the last minute.
▪️ Group coordination: For groups of 4 to 24 players, CGE Golf manages tee time sequencing, caddie allocation, and score management as standard. Every player in the group arrives at the correct time, with their caddie assigned, and the round flows as planned.
▪️ Caddie briefing support: For first-time visitors to Thailand, CGE Golf provides destination-specific guidance on caddie etiquette, tipping norms, and how to communicate effectively with your caddie before your first round — so the practical questions in this guide are answered before you arrive, not after you've already had an awkward first tee experience.

Tee times and caddies are two of the details that feel minor in the planning stage and feel major on the ground. Getting them right — the right courses, the right times, the seamless schedule — is the difference between a good golf holiday and a genuinely exceptional one.
CGE Golf's team handles both as default elements of every managed package, drawing on established course relationships and years of on-ground experience across Thailand's golf regions. Your job is to choose where you want to play. Everything else is handled.
