MYANMAR EXPLORER SCHOOL TOUR

MYANMAR EXPLORER SCHOOL TOUR

What better way to learn about the history, culture, and traditions of Myanmar than by visiting, and exploring the country first hand with your students! Myanmar tours for students allow them to immerse themselves in a country just emerging from decades of isolation. Without the influence of Western culture/civilization, students will immerse themselves completely in one of the richest traditional cultures in Asia, while taking in colonial architecture through Yangon, and thousands of ancient temples in Bagan, where history comes alive beyond the textbook. This student tour in Myanmar includes visits to some of the countries most beautiful regions where students will also participate in service-learning projects to assist the local rural communities.

Tonight, your group will enjoy a welcome dinner to celebrate the first night in Myanmar.

Overnight in Yangon.

Today your group will be transferred to the airport for a short flight to Loikaw. On arrival you will be welcomed at the airport and transferred to your hotel.

This afternoon, we’ll visit Kayah State Cultural Museum to learn about the tribes of Kayah State, as well as their varying traditional dresses and weaponry; perhaps its most interesting feature is the central totem pole that is also a major feature of many of Kayah villages, an animist tradition pre-dating Buddhism or Christianity.

Afterwards, we will visit Natural Dyeing workshop where you will learn about how to dye Kayah traditional fabric and clothes with the use of flowers, leaves and fruits.

Then, head to Taung Gwe Pagoda to enjoy the sunset and panoramic view of Loikaw.

Overnight in Loikaw.

Today students will visit the local market and the Taung Kwe Pagoda, then travel to a village to meet the Long Neck Karen people, who are a symbol of Kayah state. In the village students can learn a few words of Kayan language and interact with these fun-loving and artistic people.

In the afternoon, we take a short trek, to enjoy the 360-degree view of the surrounding mountains.

Overnight in Loikaw.

Today we will spend the day at the Hta Kho Village, where students will gain an insight into the beliefs, arts, crafts, and the local way of life in Hta Kho village.

The local village guide will introduce guests to Htay Kho’s church, which is the spiritual heart of the community. We will then visit a small, cottage museum which preserves and showcases traditional musical instruments, hunting equipment and household objects.

Next, our guide will accompany us to meet village artisans and musicians, and learn about their arts, crafts, and daily life. We meet the skilled weavers, who make stunning, colorful costumes and enjoy a hands-on, crafts workshop, where local artisans will teach us how to make a special, intricately woven Kayaw braid.

Overnight in Loikaw.

This morning we travel through rugged jungle terrain and pass by bamboo houses on stilts to visit the Lisu Village. Our local guide will take students through the village and they will learn firsthand about the local people’s customs, culture, and way of life.

In the afternoon visit a beautiful cave known as Aung Tha Pyay cave. The cave is close to a 1km in length and houses a dozen or so buddha statues, as well as many stalactites and stalagmites.

Overnight in Loikaw.

The aim of our community service programs is to provide students with the opportunity to engage with communities and to make a real difference and improve the daily lives of the local communities they visit. In Myanmar students can be involved in community service projects like:

  • Fixing or Building houses
  • Installing a water tank or clean water facilities

Participation in these projects can build a feeling of self-worth and a sense of local community and allows students to develop a deeper understanding and knowledge while gaining new skills and memorable experiences.

Overnight in Lokaw.

Today we travel by road to Hpekhon and then travel by boat to Sagar Lake. On the way, we stop to visit a magnificent Sagar (Sankar), a site of over 100 Buddhist stupas rising from the lake. After, students will take a guided tour of Tarkhaung pagoda complex.

When we arrive at Inle Lake students will trek through local tribe villages and along the way they will meet the local people and see how they live. It is like traveling back in time. We stop to visit a silk weaving work shop, where students can observe the process of how they harvest the raw material right through to the finished products and see the locals working the farms with their water buffalo.
