Overnight in Sepilok.

This morning we visit the Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre which provides medical care for orphaned and confiscated orangutans as well as dozens of other wildlife species. It also treats other species of animals such as sun bears, gibbons, and elephants.

Students will have the opportunity to observe the orangutans in their natural environment and learn how they are rehabilitated. Students can observe the feeding of the Orangutans and the infant orangutans in the Orangutan Nursery.

This afternoon we visit the Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre. Malayan sun bears are the smallest bears in the world and are only found in Southeast Asia. The facility includes large forest enclosures to provide a natural environment suited to the needs and welfare of the sun bears and facilitate their rehabilitation back into the wild. Students will learn about the sun bears behaviour and what makes them unique, deforestation, commercial poaching, the pet trade and the important work the centre does to rescue, care for and rehabilitate sun bears to the wild.

Overnight in Sepilok.

This morning we board our boat and cruise up to the Lower Kinabatangan River Sanctuary. This is a wonderful journey of discovery which starts from the waters of Sulu Sea of Sandakan Town through a magnificent scenery of the Mangrove Forest.

We stop for lunch at the Abai Jungle Restaurant, then we continue to cruise upriver to Sukau village in search of Proboscis Monkeys, birds, and other wildlife.

On arrival in Sukau, we will check into the Kinabatangan Riverside Lodge. Later in the afternoon, we take a cruise to Menanggul River, a small tributary of the Kinabatangan.

Overnight in Sukau.

Wake up by the calls of gibbons and hornbills. Early morning, take a river trip to the Ox Bow Lake to observe wildlife and experience the early morning river ambience. Return to the lodge for breakfast then free at own leisure.

After lunch, walk around; relax at the sun deck while reading your favorite book from the mini library and enjoying the river view. In the late afternoon, proceed to another river cruise to search for more wildlife. Return lodge for dinner and overnight.

After lunch you will support the Tree Planting Programme, one of the conservation efforts in the Kinabatangan Wildlife Sanctuary. You will be transferred to the tree planting site, where each team member will plant a seedling near the river. This activity helps to regenerate the rainforest in one of the many 'gaps' or fragments along the river as part of the "Kinabatangan - Corridor of Life (CoL)" programme

Overnight in Sukau.

Today students will trek into the local rain forest where our guide will explain and expose students to the local fauna and flora. The trek offers a unique chance to glimpse a large amount of normally elusive species as they pass through this thin artery of forest that acts as a wildlife corridor for the animals to migrate between different areas.

Overnight in Sukau.

Today, students take a short flight to Sandakan. On arrival in Sukau, we visit the Australian War Memorial to pay tribute to those who died during the Sandakan death march, and during the Second World War. This war memorial provides insights into Australian involvement in this region and our involvement during war this period of history.
